Reliable Hygienic Processing for a Major Turkish Medical Facility

A new large-scale medical center in Turkey was designed to serve hundreds of beds across general wards, surgical units, and intensive care from the outset. As part of the facility's original infrastructure planning, the hospital required a central laundry built to handle a high daily volume of contaminated linens — including bed sheets, surgical textiles, patient gowns, and staff uniforms — while meeting the strictest infection control standards from the very first day of operation.

The Challenge

Infection Prevention by Design: The laundry needed to be architected as a controlled environment where soiled linens from isolation wards and operating theaters could be processed with zero risk of cross-contamination.
Capacity for Growth: The system had to support continuous clinical operations with fast turnaround times, with enough headroom to scale as patient volume increases.
Space Integration: The laundry footprint was allocated within the original building plan, requiring a compact, efficient layout that did not compromise adjacent clinical or support spaces.
Regulatory Readiness: All processes needed to comply with international healthcare hygiene standards for thermal and chemical disinfection from day one of hospital commissioning.

The Solution

We partnered with the project team to design and install a barrier laundry system as part of the hospital's original build. Multiple high-capacity washer extractors were installed directly through the wall between the soiled receiving area and the clean finishing area.

Key system features:

Physical Zone Separation: The wall-mounted barrier machines create a strict "dirty-to-clean" unidirectional flow. Contaminated items are loaded from the soiled side; sanitized, extracted goods are removed from the clean side — with zero shared airspace or contact points.
Hygienic Architecture: The equipment is recessed into a tiled partition wall, supporting the facility's rigorous cleaning and disinfection protocols from opening day.
Automated Process Control: Each unit runs programmable wash cycles with precise temperature, duration, and chemical dosing management, ensuring every load meets thermal disinfection thresholds.
Continuous-Duty Design: The multi-unit configuration allows parallel processing, giving the laundry the capacity to handle peak demand without interruption as the hospital ramps up to full operation.

The Outcome

Since the hospital opened, the central laundry has operated as a fully compliant, high-efficiency support unit for the facility's daily clinical workflow.
